ABOUT SOS ANIMALS SALOBREÑA
We are Gema and Gersom, who, alarmed by the high incidence of cases of animal abandonment and abuse on the Costa Tropical, decided in 2019 to actively dedicate ourselves to the recovery and rehabilitation of abandoned and abused ANIMALS implementing the premise of ZERO SACRIFICE from the first moment.
Established as a non-profit association, our work does not include schedules, weather or seasons, we are at the service of animals 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Even so, far from being discouraged, we defend their rights by also working to raise awareness and sensitize society through activities, conferences and talks.
REFUGIO CANTALOBOS
We started with modest facilities that in a short time became too small to handle all the cases. Thanks to the solidarity of Emilio Varela, owner of the Cantalobos Shelter, located in Almunecar, we can take care of all those rescued in the best possible conditions; Our thanks to Emilio who also actively collaborates with some of the maintenance costs.
ā
The shelter is managed by Rune, our Norwegian volunteer, who gives his life for the dogs. In collaboration with our family of volunteers Daria, Lucas and Daniel who also lives in Cantalobos and care for dogs 7 days a week.
They are supported by volunteers who come via Workaway and want to help take care of the dogs for a few weeks.
We currently maintain collaboration agreements with the Town Halls of SALOBREÑA, ALMUÑÉCAR, CASTELL DEL FERRO & ATARFE, providing our service of collecting the stray animal 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and sometimes in collaboration with Seprona and the Local Police.
In order to carry out our work and take care of them as they deserve, we depend also on donations, godfathers and godmothers, members and solidary companies that are our engines, otherwise with the minimum compensation we receive from the City Councils we would not cover even 20% of all the expenses that we have to attend to.
WHAT WE DO
We rescue animals from the streets and from homes when
we get informed that there is
alleged abuse.
ā
The mayor part of our work is the TEMPORARY SHELTERING of the dogs in our Refugio until adoption is achieved.
The temporary sheltering is a very broad concept that includes our intervention in rescues as well as the collection of animals, their veterinary care, physical and psychological rehabilitation, feeding or cleaning, as well as administrative actions such as legal issues of the center or cases against alleged animal abusers.
We do the management of adoptions, coordination of volunteering or relations with administrations and other entities in addition to the organization of conferences, activities and promotional and awareness events among many others.
